New Ford Transit Custom wins ‘International Van of the Year’

Ford has won the prestigious International van of the year prize at Hanover for the fourth time with its all new Transit Custom Van, previous wins came in 2001 and 2007 for the Transit, and  2003 for the Transit Connect. This was an amazing achievement for Ford who scored 117 points out of a possible 133 points, this total is more than the 2nd and 3rd placed candidates put togeher. Fords new custom model is part of Fords new van line up which is due to be complete by the end of 2013. The Ford Transit Custom model is now starting to go on sale in the UK and across Europe.

Citroen have always been at the forefront of new technology and later this month they are to reveal their new Berlingo Electric van at the Hanover Motor Show. This new van will still have the tried and trusted Berlingo qualities of load volumes and payload along with the latest in Electric vehicular technology.

The new Electric Berlingo claims a range of up to 106 miles and has an innovative charging system which means a full charge will take up to 12 hours along with a quick charge facility meaning after 30 minutes the batteries can be charged to 80%.

The new van is expected to go on sale in the UK in late 2013 and Citroen UK will announce prices closer to the launch.

Ford are in the process of renewing their Transit and Transit Connect line up with new models being released by the end of 2013, The first new vans being revealed are the Transit Heavy Van alongside the Transit Connect light versions, they are to be sold in Europe, and North America and are part of Fords “One Ford Global Strategy”

Honda has confirmed it is to increase production at its plant in Swindon after a major investment.

The money will be spent on its new Civic and CR-V models and the production of a new diesel engine. This investment means production at the plant should increase from 183000 to about 250000 units in 3 years.

Sales in the UK are up by 105 and Honda has had to take on an extra 500 staff this year making a total workforce of 3500.

Hondas production at Swindon is destined for export to over 60 countries with about 40% being sold here in Britain.
