How to brand your new van

branding your new van

When you buy a van for work purposes adding branding to it is a great form of advertising for your company and will make you appear more trustworthy to your customers. In this blog, we look at what to think about when branding your new van.

What do you want to achieve?

Before you start designing think about what you want to achieve?  Are you trying to gain new customers while driving around?  Are you trying to drive traffic to your website?  Or do you want to look more professional or established when you pull up to a customer’s home or business?

If you’re looking to gain more customers don’t be afraid to make the lettering large and easy to read. Keep the font simple and use a colour that stands out against the colour of your van. If you want to look more professional simply add small details to the passenger and driver doors.

Content

There are many options when it comes to deciding what company information to include on your van. Should you just use your logo, your phone number, website or include a list of services? This all depends on what you want to achieve, if you want to generate new business, clearly say what you do and how to contact you. If you have a running promotion like a new customer discounts, this could encourage customers to call you.

Design

If you have experience using design software you can design your van graphics yourself, but if not, it’s wise to get a professional to do this for you. Look at other branded vans for inspiration, what do you like, what don’t you like and what colours stand out against the colour of your van.

Make sure you have measured your van and you know exactly how much space you have to work with. Think about reading the graphics from 100 feet away, will this be possible? If not you need to make sure your logo and text are bigger and clearer.

Your local printing company will usually install the graphics for you but you can opt to do this yourself if you want, depending on what option you go for.

Van branding options

Magnetic signs - Magnetic signs are cost effective and easy. If your van is used for different purposes, magnetic signs can be removed when not in use. However, they often look less professional.

Vinyl Graphics - If you can design your graphics yourself the only cost will be to get the vinyl printed and installed. Vinyl graphics can last up to 8 years and look professional and established.

Vehicle Wrap - A full van wrap will cost more but it is a great way to get some attention as you can really make a bold statement. Companies like Swallow Applications provide this service.

So whatever you choose it’s important that you are happy with the final outcome and you have a van you can be proud of.

When it comes to a new van, the first time you drive it can be pretty intimidating; for your safety, confidence and peace of mind, we have put together a short guide for novice van drivers…

1. Most new van drivers are accustomed to the handling of smaller vehicles, which usually require shorter braking distances. This is something you need to consider when driving a van, particularly if you have heavy cargo.

2. Compared to other autos, vans are wider and taller, so you need to be aware of clearances as you travel under bridges or overhangs to avoid getting stuck.

3. Before you drive, always check the tyres, oil and fuel lights for your safety.

4. Many van drivers embark on long haul trips regularly, especially when part of a business. This can be stressful and exhausting, so to dodge the backaches and other pains, learn how to be comfortable in the drivers seat and maintain posture.

5. When it comes to loading the van, you should always put heavy or solid items down first, followed by lighter items later. Taller objects are likely to fall during transport, so tie them up to avoid an unwanted mess when you reach your destination.

6. One last task before you hit the road; lock the doors! The last thing you want is your cargo spilling all over the road.

Successful van driving is best done at a leisurely pace, good luck.

Recent research into light commercial vehicle sale has indicated that over the next 3 years demand is likely to increase by as much as 8% this will be largely due to an increase in the freight, logistics and post sectors.

The current research also suggests that companies are now choosing more fuel efficient vehicles in a bid to save on running costs coupled with driver training to encourage better driving habits and reduce fuel consumption, typically up to 15% fuel consumption improvements can be achieved.
